![]() Physiotherapy is a specialised profession aimed at individuals of all ages to prevent, restore, maintain, develop and enhance movement and function. These circumstances may occur naturally through ageing, injury or disease. The aim is to restore the clients function, movement, fitness and well-being to achieve a healthy and active lifestyle. Physiotherapy achieves this through a process of assessing an individual’s movement and function and using agreed upon goals and objectives. Physiotherapy views human movement and function at home, leisure and work as central to the health and well-being of individuals. At our listed building in Woodley and our treatment room within Rivers' modern gymnasium in Tilehurst, we are able to offer private individual treatment rooms furnished with modern electrotherapy equipment and exercise gymnasiums.
No referral is necessary. We do however recommend that you contact your private health insurance company as they may require a referral by a medical practitioner to authorise the treatment charges. Appointments are available from 8am to 8pm Monday to Thursday, 8am to 6.30pm Fridays and Saturday mornings. Our efficient and friendly receptionists will ensure an smooth booking procedure. Your Physiotherapist will meet you at reception and show you to the treatment room. The Physiotherapist will take you into one of the individual treatment rooms. A series of questions will be asked on the history and nature of your condition. Aggravating and easing factors will also be asked so that the Physiotherapist can gain a true picture of your problem, such as how it commenced and how it is affecting your everyday life at home and work. Questions on your medical history, medication and lifestyle will also be asked. If you take a number of medications it may be easier to write these down on a piece of paper before you come. Once the subjective examination (above) has been completed the clinical or objective examination will be performed. You will be asked to undress so that the area to be assessed and treated can be seen. Please wear suitable clothing for this, your dignity will be maintained at all times. The Physiotherapist will ask you to perform a series of movements and will perform their own tests to determine for example; pain, movement, muscle length and power, muscle balance and stability as necessary. Following the subjective and objective examination (above) the Physiotherapist will discuss with you the likely cause of your symptoms and the treatments that can be performed by them and yourself to achieve your desired goal and also to achieve a long-term benefit. The treatment will be individual to you and specific for your condition. The Physiotherapist will aim to explain and educate you about your condition throughout your session but please do not hesitate to ask throughout your visit if you do not understand anything. We feel it is vital that you fully understand your condition so that you can gain the best outcome. The treatment modalities used by physiotherapists include:
The Physiotherapist will discuss with you how many sessions they anticipate will be required to treat your condition and over what time period. Each Physiotherapist works different sessions throughout the week to aim to provide opportunities for appointments throughout the day. The Physiotherapist will take you to reception where the receptionist will make a follow-up appointment for you at the most convenient time for you. You may be asked to undress to your underwear to assess the area of your body to be treated. Please bring shorts and a vest top if you would feel more comfortable. We will ensure your privacy and dignity is maintained at all times. If you are attending for a sports related problem it may be beneficial to bring your current trainers. Additionally, please bring along any orthotics that you wear; a referral letter from your GP or consultant; any reports, x-rays, letters etc. relating to your injury, if you have them. 3way healthcare is registered with all major healthcare companies including: BUPA, AXA PPP, Standard Life, Norwich Union and many of the smaller insurance companies. In these instances we will invoice your healthcare insurance directly. We will invoice you directly for any excess on your policy once notified by your healthcare company. Certain insurance companies require that you have seen and been referred by a medical practitioner first so we advise that you please check this before attending.
